America would later learn the cabinet was racked by corruption. Secretary of the Interior Albert Fall would become the first cabinet member in history sentenced to prison, in what became known as the Teapot Dome Scandal, a conspiracy to illegally sell government oil reserves. In the end the nation learned there were few in the Harding administration, at the top level, who were not corrupt. History would not be kind to Harding.
